19 Apr General Election on June 8th 2017
The Prime Minister yesterday announced that she intended to hold a General Election on 8th June, and Parliament has today overwhelmingly supported this motion in the House of Commons. I feel that this was the right decision for the country and that is why I voted in favour.
The PM has recently, and reluctantly, come to the conclusion that an election is necessary, as she seeks to establish a strong Government that will give the country stability and certainty for a full five years, not just up to the point at which we leave the European Union but beyond it too.
The UK faces a number of challenges in the coming years and I think it is fair to grant an opportunity to the British people to have their say before we begin to negotiate our withdrawal from the EU.
My friend Theresa May is a leader who gets things done. When she became Prime Minister, her priorities were to provide economic certainty, a clear vision and strong leadership – she has delivered. She will soon set out her ambitious plans for the future of our country.
I am looking forward to making my case, and that of the Conservative Party, to the people of Bracknell, Crowthorne, Finchampstead, Sandhurst and Wokingham Without. It would be an honour and a privilege to continue serving them as their Member of Parliament.
