Over the last few days, my local campaign team (bolstered by over 40 family and friends!) have delivered an 8-page ‘Vote for Change’ leaflet to all of Bracknell constituency’s 43000 homes. It has been a fantastic effort by all concerned, for which I am very grateful. Each constituent now has the opportunity to read about who I am, what I believe in and what my Conservative candidacy would mean for them. There will be additional leaflets delivered during the General Election Campaign itself, which will further outline my political beliefs and priorities. Be assured, I am working hard to secure as many votes as I can, from every part of the Bracknell constituency.

I sent you an e-mail about the proof-reading of your letter to the constituents. However, in general, I look forward to a real person as a member of parliament rather than our current embarrasment.
What plans are there to stop ex MPs from going straight onto the lobbying gravytrain?

I live in the constituency and regret to inform you that at least one of your leaflets has not been delivered to date. In fact, I have not received any literature regarding your campaign. I have also not received a reply to an email which I sent you requesting clarification on your views about closing loopholes to prevent multinationals from wriggling out of paying taxes. Both Labour and Liberal Democrat candidates have been kind enough to reply. I am curious about your “dedication” to Bracknell, having read your biography, as you seemed to have equal “commitment” to a consituency in Wales. Do we have much in common other than your candidacy?

That’s a shame, I dont recall seeing the leaflet. Is it online?

Kate – I have answered all of the emails that I have received (in excess of 1200), so I’m somewhat surprised to hear that you have not had a response. I am also sorry to hear that you have not had a leaflet, as I have been assured that all homes have been delivered to. Please could you send me your address so that a leaflet can be delivered. Finally, as regards my previous candidacy in Wales, I am proud to have ‘earned my spurs’ representing the Conservatives in what was then the safest Labour seat in the country. To my mind, the fact that I have shown a commitment towards public service over a long period time, both within politics and medicine, should be viewed positively. I’ve previously cared for around 2000 of Bracknell’s constituents whilst working as a local doctor and have also worked at Heatherwood Hospital. I was born just 12 miles away. Does that qualify me to be described as having shown local dedication and commitment?
Paul – I am sorry to hear that you have not received a leaflet. Please can you send me your address so that one can be delivered.

Well done on being selected. Please don’t destroy the NHS and replace it with a US style insurance funded system. I didn’t get one of your leaflets – but that doesn’t matter because I wouldn’t vote Tory if you held a gun to my head, and in any case – you are certain to be elected, which explains why I also haven’t had any leaflets from any of your “competitors”. How do you feel about reform of the electoral system? Unfortunately with so many safe seats like Bracknell – many feel that voting is virtually pointless. You should be in favour of reform, after all Labour needs far fewer votes per MP, followed by the Conservatives, followed by Lib Dems etc. Lets hope you spend more time in Bracknell than your predecessor – but then that won’t be difficult!

Thank you for your comment, Alistair.
NHS – I would not support the introduction of a ‘US-style’ healthcare service.
Leaflet – I’ve been assured that every constituency home has had a leaflet. If you would like to email me your address, I can arrange for one to be delivered.
Electoral reform – I believe that this country has been well served by a parliamentary constituency system. I do agree with you, however, that for the system to be fair, all constituencies shoud have the same number of constituents.

For the record, I have now received a leaflet (very impressive speed of delivery) and also a lengthy reply to my query about multinationals avoiding paying taxes and the Robin Hood tax on banking transactions. I relate strongly to the saying that if someone wants to own a gun, then they should automatically be denied a gun license. Many would share the same thoughts about being an MP. After all, you’re unlikely to be popular, or have a happy home life, or experience work-life balance and you are likely to have every breath scrutinised by the press thus losing your privacy. You can’t even take advantage of some amazing expenses perks that were available previously. I checked your leaflet, but could not find a clear explanation of why you would want to represent any constituency in Parliament – Welsh or otherwise. Could it be the chance to open very lucrative doors after your political career finishes or are your motives more selfless than some of your predecessors?
