Defence Secretary Des Browne announced today that he expected the troop deployment in Southern Iraq to be reduced in numbers during the next twelve months. I suspect this reduction reflects more the change of circumstances in Afghanistan rather than a significant improvement in the Iraq situation. Indeed, Mr Browne made vague references to “the number of attacks on us (in Iraq) ..increas(ing)”. I have posted on this subject before. Part of the transfer of power from Blair to Brown appears to involve the transfer of troops from Iraq to Afghanistan.
