I am sorry to read that Clare Short is to stand down at the next election. ‘Colourful’ politicians are in short supply, so to lose one from any side of the House is a shame. The way in which she has handled herself in public office over the last few years has not always been to her credit; there is, however, a real sense of passion in her politics which is often lacking in other Parliamentary members of her party.
